Owned by AOL, this free online mapping tool is great when you need to find out where to go. The company was founded in 1967 and in 2000 it was bought by America Online, Inc. Mapquest provides detailed streets and driving directions for numerous countries. Like other mapping programs you can print the directions out on your computer or even send them to your mobile device such as a cell phone or personal assistant. Mapquest allows you to get directions to and from a location, reversing them so you can find your way back to your original starting point easily. After entering a destination Map Quest gives you the estimated mileage and time it will take to reach the area you are headed to. Another cool feature that it has to offer is gas prices. You can type in your vehicles MPG and it will calculate the total cost for gas. With the economy in a scramble over high gas prices Map Quest can be a big help. Points of interest can also be targeted on Mapquest; hotels, gas stations , ATMS, restaurants, banks, and airports. Recently Map Quest has offered a new feature sponsored by ALLSTATE, which allows you to get traffic updates. Construction and detours can cause chaos if you are in an area that you do not know and are not sure where to go or how to get around it. The official website also offers a chance to plan your travel arrangements right on the site; airfare and lodging. In 2005, Mapquest became available for Boost Mobile and Sprint users. You can save your destinations right on the site so you will never have to remember or re-type the information in to get directions. If you are unsure of an address the official site allows you to search for the business or place you are looking for. You can also "Build Your Route", which makes it easy to put points of interest or certain stops on your route so you do not have to make every single destination a separate search. Mapquest makes it easy to get where you need to go in a easy to read, timely fashion.
